About Ready Or Not

Ready or Not is the tactical shooter that punishes impatience, and its hardware demands work the same way: methodical, predictable, and heavier than the dark screenshots suggest. VOID Interactive's SWAT sim, the spiritual heir to SWAT 4 that arrived in early access in December 2021 and reached 1.0 in late 2023, runs on Unreal Engine 4 and trades open worlds for tight, hostile interiors where every doorway is a problem to solve slowly. Across more than 3,700 measured CPU and GPU combinations in our database, the average system records 162 FPS at 1080p Ultra, 102 FPS at 1440p Ultra, and 53 FPS at 4K Ultra. The fastest combinations reach 567 FPS at 1080p Low, while the slowest stagger along at 27. That spread, unusually wide for a corridor shooter, is the story of this page: Ready or Not is a GPU-led game with modest processor demands, and the gap between tuned and untuned hardware matters more here than in almost any other shooter we track.

Unreal Engine 4, built around darkness

Ready or Not's performance profile follows directly from how the game looks. UE4's deferred renderer is asked to handle scenes built from darkness: unlit interiors cut by dynamic flashlight beams, muzzle flashes, volumetric light shafts through door frames, and heavy post-processing layered over everything. None of that is cheap, and almost all of it lands on the graphics card. Our CPU data makes the division of labor plain. Sixteen gigabytes is the sensible baseline, matching the official recommendation, and 8 GB systems show the classic symptoms of a memory-starved UE4 title: hitching as new areas stream in, longer loads, and stutter that a faster GPU cannot fix. At the top of our table, an RTX 4090 holds 289 FPS at Ultra and the fastest recorded combination touches 326, while dropping to Low settings raises the ceiling to 567 FPS. Only the genuinely ancient hardware at the bottom of the database, the combinations behind the 27 FPS floor, fails to make the game playable.

What does that mean in practice? If you are shopping for the best graphics card for Ready or Not at 1080p, you do not need to spend much. Anything in the RTX 4060 or RX 6600 XT class already clears 120 FPS at Ultra, and one tier below that still holds 60 with headroom. A 240Hz monitor is a realistic target only with high-end hardware or reduced settings, but this is a slow, deliberate game of angles and thresholds, not a twitch arena shooter, and the difference between 144 FPS and 240 FPS matters less here than in almost anything else on this site. Spend to reach a locked 144 at 1080p and you have reached the point of diminishing returns.

1440p and 4K: the GPU bill comes due

Step up in resolution and the game's character sharpens. At 1440p Ultra the average falls to 102 FPS, with the table spanning 19 FPS at the bottom to 219 at the top. The mid-range cards that cruise at 1080p start working here: the RTX 4060 averages 94, the RX 7800 XT 116, the RTX 4070 129. That last card, or something in its class, is the honest answer for a 1440p 144Hz monitor at Ultra, since it holds close to the 130 FPS mark with minimums that stay out of trouble. Anything below the 4060 class needs either settings cuts or upscaling to stay above 100.

At 4K Ultra the average drops to 53 FPS, and Ready or Not turns genuinely demanding. Halving the frame rate between 1440p and 4K is a steeper penalty than many prettier games impose, and it reflects how much of the rendering cost scales with pixels: the volumetrics, the shadow resolution, the post-processing. The card list at 4K Ultra reads like a who's who of the high end. An RTX 4090 averages 96 FPS, an RTX 5080 91, an RTX 4070 67, an RTX 4060 just 49, and an RX 6600 a mere 38. The measured lesson is that native 4K Ultra is flagship territory, full stop. The escape hatch is upscaling. Ready or Not supports both DLSS and FSR, and at 4K the Quality preset of either is close to visually free while recovering a large slice of the resolution tax. A card that manages 50 native will typically land in the mid-70s upscaled, which transforms the experience. Settings: where the free FPS lives

The single most useful thing our data shows about Ready or Not is the size of the gap between presets. At 1080p, the averages run 162 FPS at Ultra, 229 at High, 252 at Medium, and 287 at Low. Moving from Ultra to High alone recovers more than 40 percent of your frame rate, and the visual cost is small because the game spends its Ultra budget on exactly the things you notice least during a tense clear: shadow resolution, volumetric lighting density, and effects quality. At 1440p the same pattern holds, 102 at Ultra against 145 at High and 183 at Low.

Our recommended configuration for a balance of looks and speed: textures at High or Ultra depending on your VRAM (Ultra is safe at 8 GB for 1080p, drop one notch above that), shadows at Medium, effects at Medium, volumetric lighting one step below maximum, anti-aliasing on for edge stability in dark rooms, and DLSS or FSR at Quality for 1440p and 4K. View distance is nearly free in a game of interiors, so leave it high. For competitive-minded players who want maximum visibility, low shadows and low volumetrics are the real gains, not because of the FPS but because they slightly reduce the murk that hides armed suspects in unlit corners. That is a legitimate tactical choice in a game where seeing first is the whole fight.

What hardware do you need?

Entry level (GTX 1660 SUPER class, any modern six-core, 16 GB RAM): around 96 FPS at 1080p Ultra in our data, and well past 140 with the tuned settings above. This tier proves you do not need new hardware to enjoy this game properly at 1080p.

Mid-range (RTX 4060, RX 6600 XT, or RX 7600 class): 125 to 150 FPS at 1080p Ultra, 79 to 94 at 1440p Ultra. This is the sensible heart of the market for Ready or Not, comfortable at 1080p high-refresh and entirely viable at 1440p with minor tuning or upscaling.

High-end (RTX 4070, RX 6800 XT, RX 7800 XT class): 183 to 204 FPS at 1080p Ultra, 116 to 129 at 1440p, 61 to 67 at 4K. The correct tier for a 1440p 144Hz monitor with no compromises, and the entry point for 4K with upscaling.

Flagship (RTX 4090, RTX 5080 class): 275 to 289 FPS at 1080p, 174 to 183 at 1440p, and 91 to 96 at 4K Ultra. This is the only tier that plays native 4K Ultra near triple digits, and the only sensible pairing for a 4K 120Hz screen.

On the processor side, the advice is short: almost any modern six-core will do, and our flat CPU table says a CPU upgrade is the last place to spend money for this game unless you are running something genuinely old. Aim the budget at the graphics card and at 16 GB of dual-channel memory first.

Laptop playability

Ready or Not travels well. Our mobile data shows the RTX 4060 Mobile averaging 132 FPS at 1080p Ultra and 83 at 1440p, the RTX 4070 Mobile at 148 and 94, and the RTX 4090 Mobile at 206 and 130. A mainstream gaming laptop from the last three years runs this game the way it is meant to be played. Two caveats apply as always. Ready or Not is unusually kind to a streaming setup for one reason: the CPU sits mostly idle by modern standards. Common problems and fixes

Stuttering in the first sessions, or after a driver update: classic UE4 shader compilation. The game builds its shader cache as you play, and the hitches fade after the first hour on each map and after the cache settles. Keep drivers current, let the game sit at a menu for a few minutes after updates, and resist the urge to blame your hardware.

Good average FPS but ugly hitches on an 8 GB VRAM card: the Ultra texture pool is overflowing. Drop texture quality one notch. The average FPS will barely move and the stutter will largely disappear.

Long loads and texture pop-in at mission start: the game is on a hard drive. Moving it to even a modest NVMe SSD resolves both, and it is the cheapest quality-of-life upgrade on this list.

The game is too dark to play: partly art direction, partly calibration. Raise in-game gamma slightly and check your monitor's black level before assuming something is broken. Suspects hiding in darkness is the intended experience, but you are not meant to be blind.

Second, memory: if you are below 16 GB or running a single stick, fixing that is cheap and removes the stutter class of problems outright. Third, storage: an NVMe SSD for load times and streaming smoothness, inexpensive and immediately felt.
