About Control
Control is a third-person action-adventure game developed by Remedy Entertainment that plunges players into the shoes of Jesse Faden, the newly appointed Director of the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC). Set entirely within the "Oldest House," a paranormally shifting brutalist skyscraper in New York, the game explores a world where everyday reality is breached by unexplainable forces. Jesse must master the Service Weapon—a supernatural, shape-shifting gun—and utilize telekinetic abilities to reclaim the Bureau from a corruptive, chanting resonance known as the Hiss.
The game has achieved critical acclaim and lasting popularity due to its unique "New Weird" aesthetic, atmospheric storytelling, and satisfy combat physics. Unlike traditional shooters, Control encourages aggression and movement, allowing players to rip concrete from the walls to use as shields or projectiles in a highly reactive environment. While it lacks a competitive multiplayer scene, its intricate Metroidvania-style map design and deep lore have cultivated a dedicated player base who appreciate high-concept science fiction and exploration.
On the technical front, Control is notoriously demanding and serves as a primary showcase for Ray Tracing technology. Built on the Northlight Engine, the game features complex physics simulations, destructible environments, and advanced volumetric lighting that can heavily tax both the CPU and GPU. While the minimum specs allow the game to run on older hardware, achieving high framerates at 1080p or above typically requires a modern mid-range card. For users with NVIDIA RTX cards, enabling DLSS is strongly recommended to balance performance with the game's cutting-edge reflections and global illumination.
